We are all aware of the risks of catching the Corona COVID-19 virus now that it seems to be spreading to other countries with more cases now in the UK. While most people will recover without issue if they catch it, some may experience more serious symptoms. The good news is that there are simple precautions we can take to reduce the risk of catching it.
Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub. This will kill any virus on your hands which the virus can be transmitted on.
Keep at least 1 metre distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. This is referred to as social distancing. If someone sneezes or coughs they spray small liquid droplets which may contain virus which you can breathe in.
Avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose. Your hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth where it can enter your body and infect you.
Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw away the used tissue immediately.
If you have fever or cough call your doctor or dial 111. Follow the directions of your local health authority. This will help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
